The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of equipment and general building maintenance and repair functions related to the care of the Company’s facilities.

  • Work safely and responsibly at all times
  • Ensure that all team members assisting you are working safely and responsibly at all times
  • Perform lock out/tag out/ hot work permits on various projects/repairs
  • Ensure that fire extinguisher checks are done monthly
  • Ensure that all machines, chains, belts etc are turned off at the end of shift
  • Work with team members to identify and resolve any known safety issues
  • Work with team members to identify and document any/all near misses
  • Communicate with Team Leads and Safety Coordinator on any/all safety items and their resolution


  • Set a good example for the team
  • Give input to team members when necessary
  • Troubleshoot and solve day to day issues
  • Assist to ensure that team goals are met daily and provide feedback on opportunities to improve team performance
  • Work with team members to identify and resolve any potential process issues.
  • Keep the supervisor and other necessary members of management informed on how things are going in your department
  • Inform the supervisor of any necessary training that you may need
  • Strive to bring about necessary change


  • Making sure repairs are done right the first time
  • Work is neat and of lasting quality


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and understand the sawmill manufacturing process
  • Ability to do daily walk around and equipment inspections.
  • Ability to learn piece of equipment in the operation.
  • Ability to fill in and run equipment if necessary.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must show good communication skills
  • Ability to work overtime in a variety of job assignments.
  • Needs to demonstrate and maintain a positive work attitude and work cooperatively with co-workers, etc.
  • Must have good organizational skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Must possess computer skills in order to utilize part inventories and ordering.
  • Maintain work areas to be cleaned and organized
  • Assist managing vendors and supply inventories
  • Develop and Maintain preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain database for maintenance related information.
  • Basic Electrical skills
  • Basic pneumatic skills
  • Basic hydraulic skills
  • Ability to weld Mig or stick
  • Ability to learn saw sharpening equipment

There will be wood dust, grease, and welding fumes in this job classification. The noise level in the work environment is usually high.  Physical demands include but are not limited to bending, squatting/kneeling, twisting, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking and use of hand and foot controls.  Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 75 lbs frequently.  Must be able to operate hand tools, power tools, drives and forceful grip tools.
