Robbins and Covington Flooring to donate State-of-the-Art MVP™ System
Cincinnati, Ohio,
November 20, 2009 MSNBC’s nationally televised show, Morning Joe, was broadcasting live from John McDonogh High School in New Orleans this morning to raise awareness about volunteerism in the “Big Easy”. The school was hard hit by Hurricane Katrina and is still undergoing renovations. During one segment of the show, Digger Phelps, former Head Basketball Coach at the University of Notre Dame, whose teams played on Robbins’ courts for many years, challenged Robbins Sports Surfaces to help renovate the gymnasium by donating a sports floor to the school. As soon as Robbins heard about the challenge, we contacted Joe Covington Jr., president of Covington Flooring Company and Robbins’ exclusive dealer in Louisiana. As luck would have it, Mr. Covington was already in New Orleans on business and immediately made his way to John McDonogh High School. After a quick discussion, we agreed to answer the challenge by installing the most technically-advanced system on the market today, Robbins’ MVP. The MVP system, which is designed for safety and high performance by minimizing energy-robbing vibrations and providing extreme uniformity, is valued at almost $120,000 – talk about answering the challenge! While at the school this morning, Mr. Covington was interviewed and announced our plans. Needless to say, the response has been overwhelming. Robbins and Covington join other notable companies like Spalding, Starbucks and Houghton-Mifflin in helping in this worthwhile endeavor. According to Jay Stoehr, Robbins’ president and CEO, “We are delighted and indeed fortunate to be able to pitch in and give back to the community at this time. We are passionate about providing safe, high-performing sports flooring systems for all ages so that they will have the opportunity to play and compete as part of a well-rounded education. As Digger Phelps mentioned on the show, we will be looking forward to the day that John McDonogh High School earns a state basketball title and joins other champions like the Lakers and the University of North Carolina who also play on Robbins floors.” Mr. Covington’s sentiments echo Mr. Stoehr’s comments. “We are extremely pleased to be in a position to support this very worthy cause in a community which has been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The heartfelt thanks I received this morning from a community in need is something that I will never forget.” * * * Professional installation of the floor will be provided by Covington Flooring Company, one of Robbins’ exclusive authorized dealers in North America.
